Edward Mongzar prides himself upon creating pieces that are gentle, ethereal and poised. Holding beliefs in honouring the artisanal crafts from which most contemporary work has been derived. In respect of this, the garments Edward Mongzar creates involve the timeworn practice of hand-weaving materials. Edward’s most treasured belonging growing up was a hand woven scarf from the village of his ancestry, given to him by his grandfather at a very young age. Edward felt it always kept him tightly connected to his family roots and tribal heritage. He was mesmerised by the stories of how the scarf came to be.
Fine tuned expertise and devotion are given to every garment, resulting in unique and captivating creations. The fabric is painstakingly weaved over a period of days, perfectly woven by hand weavers of Nagaland in the North East of India. The materials are then dyed under the blazing sun, surrounded by the history and magnificence of the pink city of Jaipur.
The garments are created by those skilled in some of the oldest crafts of fashion in two of the most culturally vibrant destinations of the modern world; displaying true artistry. Mastery never before seen in luxury garments. Edward Mongzar is pioneering unchartered territory, exposing the handcrafted luxury of marble dying and Naga hand weaving to a contemporary market for the very first time, executed with incredible ingenuity and dexterity.
This connection to his Naga tribal heritage is very important to Edward and he is determined to give Naga hand weaving a new lease of life in a contemporary world. Edward keeps in the forefront of his mind that his team of weavers will always have an essential place in everything he does.
